Competitions and Policies

There will be up to two athletes selected in each event, depending on the relative strengths of the two teams. With a team size limit of 45 athletes, there will not necessarily be selections in all events.

The scoring system will have a head to head points component as well as performance points bonuses for all team members, which will mean all team performances will contribute to the final match score.

Selection for the TT21 test match will be heavily weighted on performances at the first three ‘Classic’ meets in January: Wellington 22nd , Wanganui 26th and Hastings 29th. Full selection criteria will be released shortly.
Alongside the athletes from Australia and New Zealand in the Test Match , other athletes not selected or eligible for the team will be invited to compete.
Athletics New Zealand Rio 2016 Performance Project Manager Terry Lomax said the format and selection criteria will allow the teams to select to their respective strengths, allowing both teams to give useful competition to targeted groups of athletes.
